Reset default program (mBot) doesn't seem to do anything

#1

I’ve connected the mBot via the serial USB connector. I believe it is connected properly because I can run “Upgrade Firmware” see a progress indicator.

I then chose “Reset Default Program” -> “mBot” and nothing seemed to happen. No popup dialog, no beeps or lights, as if the menu item wasn’t connected to anything. The remote still doesn’t work (it did when we first got it)

v3.3.2.

Ideas?

I have the same issue (?). Upgraded firmware, windows, everything works. I managed to upload a program successfully with usb serial port. Now I want to reset to default, but nothing happens. Mbot is on, connection is active.

I have found closing mBlock then re-opening it fixes it on a variety of PC platforms and on Mac (70 students)
Save your program
Close mBlock
Re-open mBlock
Reset default program before doing anything else.

This presumes communications work and firmware is updatable.

I have found that the current version of mBlock for OS X (3.3.2) will not reset to default, but the earlier version does. So, I use the older version to get back to the embedded program, and the new version for programming.
Of course, this should be fixed !

Hi Xapp,

Could you use the mBlcok 3.3.2 for OSX to Upgrade firmware for mBot first and then reset default program have a check?
Look forward your further feedback.

The “Upgrade Firmware” and “Reset Default Program” menu options are dimmed out and can’t be selected. I’m running OS X 10.11 (El Capitan) on this iMac.
Interestingly enough, I just tried my Macbook Air with mBlock 3.1 and the options are now dimmed for it, too ! I had previously used this to reset the default program, now I can’t. The MBA is running OS X 10.9 (Mavericks).

Hi Xapp,

Have you chosen the Board as mBot and chosen the correct serial port for the mBot?

Excellent, I will try this.

Hi All,

Now, the latest version of mBlock is v3.3.4, you may download and install v3.3.4 have a try: http://www.mblock.cc/zh-download
Please remember to Upgrade Firmware for the main board first and then try reset default program or program yourself.

I can get the default program back on the mBot, but once I take the USB cable out of the mBot and turn the robot back on it just beeps. It is almost as if the update that was installed was only temporary. Once the cable is removed then it gets set back to some old sketch. I have tried with the power from the batteries connected and disconnected. I have tried it with both old and new version of mBlock. Is there a step I missing? Mbolck says it successfully uploaded and I can even test it and it works. However, once the usb cable is removed it just gives three small chirps in row over and over.

Hi smorgan,

With the USB cable removed, you need power on the mBot with the battery.
For this issue, please kindly change the battery for the mBot have a try since the mBot may not get enough power from the current battery

Hello,
I do also run mBlock on a MacBook Pro. In my program I have the mBot running the motors in a loop. I have the described problem that I cannot stop the program. I have no connection via USB and therefore cannot reload the firmware nor the default program. Pushing the reset button doesn’t work also.
Because I have a Windows-VPC: Here it was no problem to get connection and stop the program by reloading the firmware.
Can anybody help me with this problem!
Thanks
Dieter

Hi Dieter_Schmidt,

Do you mean that you can connect mBot to Windows PC without issue, while there is a issue when connect the mBot to your MacBook Pro?
If yes, please make sure you have installed the Mac version Arduino driver on your Macbook Pro, here is the link to download the driver:http://blog.sengotta.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/CH34x_Install.zip
And you can refer to the note parts in these instruction to Upgrade firmware and reset default program for mBot:22. How to Upgrade Firmware for mBot.docx.zip (407.6 KB)
