Megapi with Raspberry Pi Compute Module

I want to connect Raspberry Pi compute module with Megapi via dupont jumper cables (10 wires) instead of placing Megapi on top. I want to know whether it is necessary to connect the 5V from the Raspberry Pi to the Megapi or I can skip it. The reason is that whenever the Megapi draws too much power, the Raspberry Pi crashes.

Tried it myself. Does not work until all pins are connected.
