Hi all. Can anyone explain to me how the extension pack component which is colour sensor work? Maybe tech-support can help me?

i have download it but i cant seem to understand the working principle for this colour sensor. can you shade some light? the way i understand is that this color sensor will detect 0-255 value,Is this correct?
