Xy plotter vs mdraw

I am looking for a project to do with my soon to be 10 yr old son.

I see the mdraw has been discontinued. although it can still be purchased on the internet.

so my question becomes why did it get discontinued?

looking for the least amount of headaches. so I assume the newer version would be best.
but I saw on one site that describes the plotter as advanced and mdraw as intermediate.

any advice ?

The mDraw software is still available for downloading on our website. But we won’t keep developing or updating it anymore.
For XY Plotter, we are on the plan to develop a new XY plotter software special for XY Plotter kit.

sorry for the confusion.
I am referring to the hardware kits.
the xy plotter that is currently available on make blocks site
vs
the kit that can be configured 4 different ways:

just wondering why the later was discontinued.
wondering what the differences are, since i was probably going to buy the cheaper discontinued version.

I understand they both use mdraw software.

any other differences that might influence a purchase??

xy plotter seems bigger and more involved.

the other 4 way kit seems smaller and easier to assemble.

do they both get similar results???

Hi Fmodesta,

It is our company’s policy to discontinue the mDrawbot kit duo to varies factors since we want to keep update and improve to provide better products to customers.

There are lots of differences between XY Plotter and mDrawbot including the robot form, mechanical movement principle and firmware. The working area of the XY plotter is also different with each form of the mDrawbot.

The mDrawbot kit is out of store, I am afraid there is no cheaper discontinued version for sell. If you are going to buy the robot kit from our re seller who may has the some pieces in stock, you still can get the normal after sale service and warranty service according to our warranty policy.

Temporarily, we do not have plan to develop a Linux version software for XY plotter. We may have such plan in the future.
