XY-Plotter issue

#1

Hi, I’ve assembled the x-y plotter installed the software for Bluetooth control to the board, installed the apk to my galaxy s4 and am 95% certain that all the electrical wiring was done correctly given that when the device is connected to the 12v powersupply the drawing mechanism moves to the top right corner.

However, when I have connected to the device from my phone and instruct it to draw, for example the (thank you) sketch the drawing mechanism moves to the point where it should start, then suddenly the I see the Meduino and the shield basically all the electronics power off, then the drawing mechanism rests back to the top right corner.

I have no idea what’s going on, could someone please help me shed some light on the issue.

Thanks.

What is the power supply you use?
Sometimes, electronic restarting means that the motors are trying to use too much power, and that there is no sufficient power anymore for the electronic, causing the restarting…

@adebeir I’m using the 12v 2amp power supply that came in the box.
You think I should buy a new one?

#4

No, in theory 2 Amps should be sufficient.
Maybe its a software problem, I didn’t made the XY-Plotter, si I do not know…

#5

@adebeir, I could be wrong, but doesn’t the device shutting off and restarting point to an electrical issue rather than a software one?

I really want to get this to work and it’s driving me crazy, I’ve disconnected and reset all the wires, and if I’m not mistaken if there were a short someone it would stop at power on correct?

I guess I should try a new power supply just to be sure.

Also, I hope the MakeBlock team sees this and can at least give me a little help.

hi,@solaralchemist .
Without the stepper drivers,is the meduino power off also?
You can try to reduce the Microstep Driver’s max current.

Thanks indream for the suggestion I will try that tomorrow.

Just one question, is it normal that the stepper driver wiring here http://wiki.makeblock.cc/index.php?title=Me_2H_Microstep_Driver is (green @ A+, black @ A-, Blue @ B+, & red @ B-)

While the wiring here http://www.instructables.com/file/FPPQ3C4HLZRTXIC [which I used] is (red @ A+, blue @ A-, black @ B+, & Green @ B-)

And would that make a difference?

Thanks

hi @solaralchemist,

  1. Our stepper motor has two phase. So it doesn’t matter you change the connection order between phase A and phase B. Which I mean Black and Green could be connected to A orB, Red and Blue could be connected to B or A. And yes, it would change the motor direction.

2, And,
A+:Black A+:Green
A-:Green or A-: Black Both of the connection type are OK.

3, There is only one rule you need to follow, which is you can’t mix them together.

For example, this kind of connection type is wrong, it would make damage to the motor.

A+:Red
A-: Black
B+:Blue
B-:Green
