What is the connector type called for the rechargeable battery pack?

Hi, new to robotics and programming. I am interested in adding a rechargeable battery pack, but I have a couple of questions. Am I correct in understanding that the current specs are 3.7v 2500mah recommended? I remember reading that the Adafruit brand was a good match for this kit, but I only saw one product on Amazon from them. Also, what would the name be for the two pin connector on the board? Thanks in advance!

You can go to the Adafruit site to order that battery directly. It comes with the correct connector installed. The connector is a 2-pin JST-PH. This is the battery I’m using for my classes and the clever engineers at Makeblock were kind enough to put the charging circuitry onboard so that it will charge from the USB connection.

I notice that the total capacity of that Adafruit rechargeable pack is 2500 mAh, whereas putting four rechargeable AA batteries into the battery holder gets you roughly four times the capacity for about the same price. Is there any reason not to go with rechargeable AAs instead of the the rechargeable pack? (Perhaps the AAs won’t recharge from the USB, and will need external recharging?)

The AA batteries can, but mBot couldn’t do it. They also can’t recharge forever, so you’ll end up with gross batteries eventually. Thus a battery like Adafruit would be preferable in this situation, I guess. :smiley_cat:
