We need a sticky- right now

#1

We have way too many forum topics that are reappearing on a regular basis, as @chuckmcknight mentioned on a different thread. I think it’d be nice to make a sticky with some frequently asked questions before we get to making the wiki. There isn’t that much info out there, and since spam seems to be on a slow rise, I think it’d be useful.

What do you all think?

I’m considering just making a wiki on Wikia. I really appreciate the hard work that the Makeblock team does, but I think a community-powered wiki might be a great add-on resource.

Hi @tobor,

Yeah, I’d seen the note. I’m just wondering whether or not it might be better to run one separately. I’m fond of the folks at Makeblock, but I’m aware of their resource constraints. A Wikia wiki wouldn’t cost anything and would allow us to actively curate the wiki to avoid spammers. I’m still mulling it over right now (I have a class to teach this coming week and an ebook to finish), so it won’t be anything I jump on right this instant.

Wikia definitely seems to be out best bet. Someday we might be able to upgrade to MediaWiki, as well!

#6

A community-based WIKI is a really smart idea. I’d prefer Mediawiki from start though, why upgrading later, which is never trivial. But anything is better than what we have as of now. When it comes to Mediawiki I may be able to help with expertise, have administrated one at work (a technical knowledge base in the industry).

You’re right. We’d have to find a place to host it, though.

EDIT:
Let’s continue this on a different [topic] (http://forum.makeblock.cc/t/who-wants-to-work-together-to-create-a-comprehensive-guidebook-for-mblock/3194/34) because this conversation doesn’t have much to do with stickies : P
