Starter Robot Kit Motor Issue

#1

I’m am completely a beginner in the world of electronics and robotics. So I put together the robot and originally had issues with the Bluetooth and updating the firmware on the app. Also there was an ear piercing beeping sound coming from the bot. I have the Bluetooth connected to port 5 and flipped a small white switch next to port 8 on the Orion circuit board which stopped the beeping. I am now able to connect to the app and can move the motors around using the app. Only problem is that the motors don’t seem to be strong enough. When I lift the bot off the ground and move the motors on the app they are able to function fine. But when I place the bot onto the ground and try moving the motors they just move slightly and almost seem weighted down. So, is this definitely an issue with the motors? If so is there any way to replace them?

Hello Bryan

Can I ask what’s your motor type, or maybe you can try to use a 12V adapter to check.

What speed do you have the motors set to when you try moving them? I know if I try moving my robot on carpet (using the tracks) using the 6v battery pack and the speed it too low the robot cannot overcome the static friction. But if you have the motors set to at least 150 it should work.

The motors are 25mm, DC Gear Motor, DC 6.0V, 185 RPM, and gear ration 1:46.

I had them above 150 and still wouldn’t move

Hi @peterlee,

I was one of the persons reporting this issue 2 months ago. See my posts here (see parts of my story here http://forum.makeblock.cc/t/robot-starter-kit-bluetooth-firmware-update/811, http://forum.makeblock.cc/t/whats-the-difference-between-the-firmware-and-example-applications/817, http://forum.makeblock.cc/t/12v-rechargable-battery/707). I asked for 4 replacement motors (starter kit and ultimate kit) last week via support@makeblock.cc and I still didn’t get any response. Could you please look into it?

Thanks,

Michal
