Reset to default loses connection early in the process

#1

I am connecting my mbot via USB, selecting the USB port and I do have mCore selected as the board. Yet the “Reset Default Program” in mblock 3.4.2 quits saying “programmer not responding”. When I check the connection after it fails, I find that I am no longer connected to the mbot.

I tried two earlier versions of mblock. I also upgraded the Arduino firmware from the Arduino IDE. I installed the USB drivers (CH_34x) recommended in the forum.

I am running Mac OS X Yosemite if this is relevant.

Why I really need to reset:

  • iPad connects via bluetooth and runs example programs online. The mbot does nothing!
  • When I turn on the mbot, it no longer makes any sounds (since attempting my first firmware upgrade via mblock).

Help will be greatly appreciated by me and my 9 year old who was excited to learn to program the mbot.

Hi teacherz,

Please temporarily remove the Bluetooth module from mBot, then temporarily disable the serial port for Bluetooth connection on the PC either.
After finished above, please upgrade firmware for mBot and see if it says upload finish. Please refer to the steps in this document.1. How to Upgrade Firmware for mBot.docx.zip (690.6 KB)
Then upgrade firmware for mBot and see if it says upload finish. Please refer to steps in this document.2.How to reset default program manually.docx.zip (677.9 KB)

Once still the same thing, change the USB port or USB cable have a try.

Upgrading firmware stopped at 24%. I then went into Arduino mode and I found the following:

Hi teacherz,

Was the bluetooth removed? Have you tried with other USB port and USB cable?
Besides, is it possible for you to try on another PC?

Yes to all the questions except the last one! I don’t have another working PC!

I will get hold of a friend’s and try again. Thanks.

OK, I dug up an old Windows laptop and bingo! Both the firmware upgrade and reset worked. Thank you for your responses.
