OS X Yosemite Bluetooth Discover

#1

Hi,

I just received my mBot. Amazing little device. I look forward to running a homeschool course on robotics and coding.

I followed the Orion Yosemite installation suggestion and can successfully upload new firmware commands and run the program on the mBot via USB (just a simple “When keyboard press play sound” as a test). I watched the Bluetooth video in the Academy and saw a menu option to “Discover” bluetooth devices (on a PC). I don’t see that option in OS X. Did I miss it? I can’t see how to connect the mBot via Bluetooth.

Thanks in advance for you help,

Barry

BTW, I know that the Bluetooth module is functioning because I can connect to it via the iPhone app.

Maybe I’m also missing a thing, but here’s how I got the bluetooth connection running:

  • Install the special Yosemite driver, as you did.
  • Went into the bluetooth settings and tried to discover the mBot. It shows up as Makeblock
  • Connected at least once via the bluetooth settings. The device deconnects automatically after a while though.
  • Opened mBlock and created some mBot application.
  • I selected the serial port “/dev/tty.Makeblock-ELETSPP” and board “mBot”
  • Called “Uploaded to arduino” from the canvas.

I tried the bluetooth with Arduino IDE too, were I sometimes got some timeouts.

Interesting. Ok. Thanks. I’ll give it a shot.

I’m running Yosemite and that’s the process I had to go through which included rebooting the mBot after the firmware update and the Mac after the drivers were installed. Then I could connect through the serial port as HIP70890 described.

Currently, I can write the scratch program and upload it successfully to the Arduino/mBot. Unfortunately, the mBot doesn’t do anything. Haven’t thought of what to try next… :frowning:
