New xy plotter vibration while operating

#1

I have just assembled my xy plotter and finally have it up and operating but there seems to be an excessive amount of vibration when the machine is operating it actually causes the plotter to shift… on the work surface. what speed is being used and what voltage is being used for the stepper motors?

I am using draw to control as I am on a Mac

I’m PC, but are your switches on the steppers set to HHH? And in MDraw are you at 100%. My Orion is powered by the wall wart as yours should be. With ball point pen I set it at 75% and steppers at their slowest or HHH. I bought a 3.5W laser on eBay and it plugged right in to the M2 which outputs 12V 1A so with a little retrofit of the cord I was good to go. Also HHH and depending on depth of cut 5% (cuts two card stock sheets) or 90% (burns nice fine line on paper).

what do you mean by HHH?

It depends a lot on what you’re doing. If the plotter is running many small / short line segments, it constantly stops and starts while processing them, which appears as vibration. If you use relatively few long lines it runs much smoother. The 16MHz chip isn’t really up to the task of path planning and continuous motion.
