New version of mBlock (3.2.2) question

#1

Greetings @Pioneer !

Reading through the bug fixes/features for mBlock 3.2.2 (see below)

V3.2.2 new features
Add extension of scratch control
V3.2.2 BUG repair lists:
1)Fixed the bug of LED Face when editing contents;
2)Fixed the mistake of translation
3)Fixed bug of command “Pick random X to X”
4)Fixed bugs of commands “say XX for X secs” and “think XX for X secs”

I wanted to ask what the new feature of add extension of scratch control refers to. I looked at the source in Github and it has not been updated to 3.2.2 yet so I can’t follow any further on that line. :slightly_smiling:

Thanks!

Charles McKnight

@chuckmcknight, sorry for the confusion, after confirmed with our mBlock developers, I was told its the wrong discription from us, it should be “support extension of scratch control”, our software didnt support it in the past time, after fixed, it supports now.

#3

@Pioneer, thanks. Will the current version of the software make it to Github any time soon?

#4

You can download the neweset mBlock software from here: http://www.mblock.cc/

Hi @Pioneer,

I’m sorry, I meant to ask when the latest version of the source code will be uploaded to Github.

#6

That URL doesn’t work for me because it comes up in Chinese. Is there an English version of downloading mblock 3.2.2?

#7

Where are you? I’m in the US and it comes up in English for me.

#8

@eric03, sounds strange, however, you can click “语言” to change the language.

#9

@chuckmcknight, we do have, but you dont need to do that, you can click “connect” < “view Source” to get it.

My computer doesn’t want to download it… malicious download warning using Google Chrome.
Will there be a English version? Sure would like to try the new software.

#11

Yes, in the US. I’m using Firefox as a browser. What are you using? Perhaps Firefox has a setting that changes Chinese into English?

#12

I finally found the correct download - just appeared in English and my computer accepted it.
Thanks for all the help.
I’m setting up mBlock on a bunch of elementary school computers to use with mBots and Arduino Uno w shields. Picked up sensors and servos. Looking forward to some fun with simple robots and programming. These will be an extension to Scratch programming and Lego Robotics.

My only concern is keeping mBlock updated. I battle loading software already with all the computers being managed by our district. Anyway - I will find a way! Thanks for the help!

I still can’t get the USB driver to work for El Capitan 10.11.3. I downloaded CH34xinstall.pkg and ran it. Seemed OK. and then ran the instructions I got from MakeBlock involving running Terminal, then rebooting in Cmd-R mode, going to terminal and running the csrutil command. But I still come up with the wrong serial port: wchusbserial1420 which doesn’t work to upload successfully to mbot. But using an older mac running OS 10.9.5, that same serial USB driver works fine. I can’t upload the instruction file Makeblock sent me, but here is the URL they provided to download the driver. Is this the correct one?

#14

I’m using the driver from this link on El Capitan without any of the command line tweaky. It appears to work find with the mBot and should work with the Orion board.

Chuck. This looks very encouraging, but when I open this link in Firefox, it’s in German and I can’t find any place on the page that brings up a download icon. Here is the phrase on that page that looks most encouraging, but where on the page do I download this package?

jetzt gibt es genau ein installiertes Package:
Werners-MacBook-Pro:~ memeticor$ pkgutil –packages | grep wch
com.wch.usbserial.pkg

Sorry to be so obtuse!

#16

Hmm, the direct download link should be here. If you search the forums for El Capitan, I think there is a link to an English version of that page.

Nobody is obtuse, we’re all here to help each other.

Chuck, that worked in the sense that I could download the right file. It had the same name as the one I was downloading earlier, but was only 26 KB instead of 42 KB. So obviously a different version. Unfortunately, installing that on my El Capitan Mac (10.11.2) gave me a serial USB port in Mblock that is wchusbserial1420, which is what I had before. It allows me to overwrite the existing program on the arduino, or reinstall the firmware, but gives an error when I upload the program to the bot. I can see that by opening the arduino program (an option in mblock) and also it doesn’t run the robot. Alternatively, on an older MbookPro running 10.9, the installation shows up in mblock as wchusbserialfa130, and that works fine. Interesingly, you mentioned you didn’t use the terminal commands that the mblock site suggested, and apparently it works. So I don’t know what to do except use the old MbookPro. Thanks for your help. Eric

Eric,

Did you remove any other commercial drivers first? The usual culprits are Prolific and older versions of the WinChipAhead (wcu) drivers. When I open mBlock 3.2.2, I see the serial port listed as /dev/tty.wchusbserial410.

Here is the file I used: CH34x_Install.zip (110.5 KB)

It worked on 10.11.2 and continues to work on 10.11.3.
