New mBot Questions on programming and setup

#1

We have the new mBot Ranger 3 in 1. Our first build is the Nervous Bird.

It can be controlled through iOS and driven around.

When it comes to programming, I have a few questions:

  1. The bird doesn’t respond to Run commands from MBlock macOS or iOS. I can connect via bluetooth, make light patterns, play sounds, but just not move.

  2. I think I upgraded the firmware. I connected to MBlock Mac, did an upload that got to 100%… but is that assurance that it installed? How can I verify the firmware version?

Was the Nervous Bird a bad first build? Is it somehow less controllable / programmable than the Ranger or the Dashing Raptor?

Hi Barthrh,

You may check if you have chosen the correct board while upgrade firmware or test the program for the Nervous board.
Please make sure you have chosen the mBot Ranger (Auriga) instead of the mBot (mCore). Please refer to this link to upgrade firmware again have a check. How to Upgrade Firmware for Ranger.zip (358.3 KB)

Thanks. This is exactly what I do. It reaches 100%, I get a Close prompt, the robot beeps twice. I’m just used to a more concrete confirmation of success and perhaps an ability to query the device for a firmware version. Is it normal that “Upgrade Firmware” always appears even if you are at the most current version of the firmware?

Hi Barthrh,

After confirmed with the engineer, the mBlock program doesn’t support the Nervous bird since it is complex to achieve the self-balancing through the graphical program. Sorry for the incorrect info before.
