mBot motors not working

#1

Bought my son a mBot entry level bot. He just assembled it and the motors don’t work. Need advice.

Hi @Just_a_Dad

mBot 1 or mBot 2 (Neo) ?

@Just_a_Dad I’m assuming you have an mBot (not an mBot Neo. An mBot Neo comes with a CyberPi).

Let me verify a few things:

  • Do other parts of the mBot work, like the lights, buzzer, etc.?
  • Are the motors plugged in and both wires of the motor cables connected to the motor?
  • Are you using the default firmware, or did you upload a custom code?

Hi @Just_a_Dad!

The motors might be unplugged, or the wires to the connector of the motor may not make a good contact. Can you try plugging it all the way in?

Hey @Rosco, I sent you a private message here (this link will only work for me and you).

Read it and let me know what you think.

It is a mBot. The lights and sounds work. Wires are plugged in. And running the default firmware.

@Best_codes is not able to assist you right now.
That’s weird. Did the motors work previously before you made this forum post

I’ve got big fingers, so the little plugs on the mBot motor cables are a pain to seat and unseat from the two sockets on the mCore board so I usually use a little pair of snipe-nose (pointy-end) pliers to do this. Do check the motor plugs to see that the wires are still in place inside them and that the wires actually make contact with the metal bits inside the plug.

The following basics may help too:

The above sheets came from my first book - you both may find it of some use. If you want a copy of it (no longer downloadable from Makeblock Education) then send me your own email address via a private message - do this by clicking on my name and then click ‘Message’ - No one else can read this:

and I’ll send you a .pdf file of the book to that address.
