mBot is connected with USB cable but can't update nor upload code

#1

Hi, I have a new mBot that I’m trying to do some coding with it. I connect it with the USB cable, open mBlock 5, add an mBot device and click Connect. Screen shows me that is connected, mBot makes some beep, everything fine. But when I try to update firmware I get this error message imagen. When I try to upload some code I get this error message:

. In both cases mBot make some beeps when error message pops up.
I tried different ports, different computer, different USB cable, different mBlock versions, always with the same result. I looked up in forums but nothing I found helped. I don’t have a clue about what could be possible wrong.

You did ensure that the power switch is on, correct? The mCore board on the mBot won’t be powered by just the USB cable and this is a frequent cause of confusion for many folks who are used to powering an Arduino Uno using just the USB cable.

#3

Yes it’s turned on. mBot makes some beeps as if it knows that the process couldn’t finish.

Maybe you can try with mBlock 3?
Here is the instruction to see if the mCore works ok. Please have a look.

Thanks for your reply. I tried with mBlock 3 and opened Arduino IDE. I got this error message: `

avrdude: stk500_getsync() attempt 10 of 10: not in sync: resp=0x30.

I looked it up and it seems a pretty generic message. I tried to upload it on mBlock 3 and I get error about permissions, I opened it as administrator and I got another verification error, I shut down Kaspersky, finally I have the same error in mBlock 3 as in Arduino IDE.

I don’t think board is failed as the mBot follows the line and move forward with the 2 onboard programs.

When you went to mBlock 3, did you upgrade the firmware / reset default program to clear out the memory?

Is it possible that you select wrong COM port?
If the issue continues, maybe we can have a remote control with teamviewer. My working time starts from 9:00 am to 18:30 pm, Mon -Fri, China time.

#8

Yes but both options say “Upload fail”.

#9

I don’t think so. I checked which port is connected in Device Manager. When I plug it to a different USB port mBlock changes COM port. I’ll contact about remote control. Thank you very much.
