I love these products. It is a great way to foster kids into Engineering through fun!
My point here is that it seems that the mBot works ‘as advertised’ and is the correct choice for beginners.
The Robot Starter Tank IS NOT. It could be, but glitchy things like program scripts, firmware(no buzzer function?), default program(no IR remote support)
I will echo the poor documentation issues, but say that I see they have been working on it and there is much online which should be ‘in the box’.
I recently purchased the Starter Robot kit for a ‘kid’ and struggled with the documentation issues like many. Even as a person with much engineering background, it was not until I later when I purchased the mBot that I realized it was the one I was after for said kid.
The mBot works with the IR remote ‘out of the box’, the Orion did not.
The mBot Program has good scripts for IR remote, Tone generation, and directional commands.
The Orion Program has few scripts and above scripts must be created manually or written into the IDE program manually
So I had to swap the present, and give the kid the smaller bot which works better, and he can IR control and program without having extensive programming ability.
