I have recently publish a vídeo with mBot programmed to be a maze solver. It works with wall follower algorithm.
I have only used sensors included on the basic mBot kit, and no aditional servos or sensors are needed.

Line follow sensor is set looking forward as you can see bellow.
Can detect the wall in front about 5mm before the hit, then go back a little space and turn left 90 degrees.
Ultrasonic sensor is set on the right side to read and hold the distance to the right wall.
Brilliant! My version uses the line follower to track lines on the floor and the ultrasonic to detect walls.
