How can I tell if an mBot is bluetooth or 2.4G, by the box?

#1

I was looking for something cool to buy my son for Christmas and came upon an mBot at a local store. They only had one in stock. I am reading that there are bluetooth versions and 2.4G versions. How can I tell which one I am buying? The box talks about both, but I cannot find any indication about which one is in the box!

Does each box contain the parts for both? Or is the box marked some certain way?

I feel stupid, but can someone help? Thanks.

I just bought one from Barnes and Noble and I also could not tell which version I bought. Even on their web store they talk about having one or the other but no way to choose or tell which you will get.
I think the issue is with BN and not makeblock since my purchases from makeblock were clear as to which version I got. Either one is probably fine for 99% of people but I would think the bluetooth one would be easier to use with the app. As far as programming and experimentation those communication modules are actually for very advanced projects versus the typical activities you will run across. Sure it is cool to control it via a smartphone but any toy can do that. Plus the IR control does similar stuff. The really cool part of the mBot is the scratch programming language and using bluetooth or wifi with that isn’t going to happen for most people. The mBot has a surprising amount of technologies which allow for a huge amount of flexibility without all the wiring and voltage issues. If it turns out you got what you didn’t want, ordering the other module is pretty easy.

Thank you! I bought mine at BN, too. So which one was in your box?

No idea, I haven’t opened it. I’ll post when I know.

Mine has the bluetooth module.

I got mine through the Kickstarter campaign, and there is a sticker on the bottom right corner of the box:

Are those labels not on the box you bought?

Nope, I have 2 from kickstarter and 1 from BN. The BN one has no such sticker.
