Help - cannot connect 2.4g mBot to Max OSX High Sierra

#1

Hello

I have just bought an mBot with 2.4g wifi. When I insert the wifi key into my laptop, the blue LED on the mBot stops blinking, which indicates both the key and the bot connect. However, I cannot find a way to connect the mBot within the mBlock application. The connect button generates a ‘connect device’ screen, but no device can be detected.

Any ideas ?

Thank you !

Which version of mBlock are you using? If it’s mBlock 5, it is still in beta and doesn’t appear to have that functionality yet. mBlock 3.4.11 is the current version that is “production ready” and connects via the 2.4GHz Serial item from the Connect menu.

Thanks, that worked. I can now connect via Wifi (menu bar now says ‘2.4G Serial Connected’)

However, interactions between my Mac and the mBot don’t seem to work.
When I try to upload a program (with ‘Upload to Arduino’) I get the following error message :
"rdude: ser_open(): can’t open device “HID”: No such file or directory
ioctl(“TIOCMGET”): Inappropriate ioctl for device

Thanks for your help,

Kind regards

2.4G connection doesn’t support program uploading but only online program.
Before you connect 2.4G, please use USB connection and do firmware update, then unplug USB and connect with 2.4G, so you can run the online program that begins with “when green flag clicked” or “when SPACE key pressed”.

To elaborate on @tech_support answer, only the physical USB cable can access the onboard _avrdude _ programmer. You can send commands from mBlock over WiFi or Bluetooth but in that case you’ll need to use the “Click on [green flag]” hat block instead of the mBot Program hat block.
