Coder Rocky Proximity Sensor Details?

#1

Hello an thank you for your interesting forum.

I have 30 Codey Rocky for shool education purposes here in Dresden.

The Proximity Sensor has two Sensors, does it?

And it has three LEDs?

The left ‘gray’-LED, the middle RGB-LED and the
right Infrared-LED, is that right?

The ambient light sensor is more on the left side inbetween the ‘gray’-LED and the RGB-LED

and the infrared sensor more to the right and inbetween the RGB-LED
and the infrared-LED?

When a ‘Color’ should be detected the middle RGB LED and the ambient light sensor
is used?

When a ‘GRAY-Scale’ should be detected the left white/gray-LED and the ambient light sensor
is used?

For a Line-Follower
could also the IR-sensor be used to detect the leaving of the right border of the TAPE-LINE?

And the ambient-Light-Sensor to detect the leaving of the left border of the TAPE-LINE?

How far away forward can the proximity sensor look?

Just less than 200 mm?

Can you give an example to measure/aproximate the distance of an object in front
of the codey rocky?

Thank you very much.

Andreas

Hi Andreas @brusinsky

Sorry, I can’t help you much here. Its rather sad that Codey Rocky is not able to measure (or stop at) precise distances.

Codey Rocky uses it’s Infra Red sensor to detect obstacles so this doesn’t work like the Ultrasonic Sensor found on other Makeblock devices; and it can’t measure the actual distance to an object. It stops at a different distance depending on the colour of the object in front of it (this distance will vary depending upon the colour of the surface that Codey Rocky is moving on too). This distance will also vary depending on the ambient light and/or the speed that Rocky is moving at.

There is only one block available for detecting objects and this is for making one simple decision only:
