Can't get mBot to move

#1

I just bought an mBot for my school’s library and I can’t get it to work. It moves just fine with the remote, but I can’t seem to get my computer to communicate with it via the 2.4g Wireless Serial. I followed a video I found on the site, but it doesn’t really help me. Is there a get started tutorial I can watch that can show me how to start up?

Or does anyone know some troubleshooting that can help me get started?

Thank you

Hey there!

I’ll need more information to try to help you out here.

So I’m guessing you already have the following:

1.downloaded the makeblock software version (3.1)
2. On the makeblock screen have you selected "**Connect**" then selected **2.4G Serial** and finally **connect** again

I’ll wait for your reply (^_^)/

Hi,

Thank you for the reply. Yes I have already downloaded the software and have selected connected and 2.4g Serial. After doing that I start to make a program to get the robot to move. The little Panda avatar moves, but there is no communication to the robot. I’m just testing it out with simple commands like walk or turn, just to get familiar with it. Is there something I need to do before?

This is all very new to all of us in the library so we don’t really know where to start.

Thank you again.

This is where I’m at and I can’t get the robot to move

So the "Motion " tab is only to control the movements of the Panda in mBlock and not the robot.

To control the robot you have to go under the "Robots " and select from the block there in order to get the mBot to move

Ahhhhh!!! How silly of me lol. Makes sense now. Ok so now another silly question, how do I get that program to run, since I don’t see any options available for it to start.

Thank you again

After the mbot is connected ,
you should be able to run the program after you click on it twice (it highlights yellowish )

Let me know if this worked!

Hi,

It worked!!! Sorry for the delay, we were on winter break and I just got around to experimenting with it today. Thank you so much for all your help. Now I just need to figure out how to stop it lol

Thank you again

I’m having the same problem as the initial post. We can’t get our mBot (2.4G) to move. I followed the steps listed. The software is downloaded. The mBot is connected. I wrote the codes to control the mBot under the “Robots” tab. The last step says to “double-click” to get the robot to move. Is that double click on the code? I’ve tried that. It turns yellowish for a moment (doesn’t stay yellow or highlighted) and the mBot doesn’t start up & follow the code that was programmed. I’m using these for the first time with my students as well. ANY suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!

Hi mrs.mac,

You can remove the robot program head and double click on the code to run it online:

Or you can add a green flag head like below, when you click the green flag, the program will run online:

If mBot doesn’t move when run the program online with 2.4G connection, you may need upgrade firmware for the mBot with USB connection first.(The 2.4G should be disconnected temporarily during upgrading firmware).1. How to Upgrade Firmware for mBot.docx.zip (690.6 KB)
Here is a video to guide use 2.4G serial on mBot to you for reference too.
