Big Batteries

#1

Hi guys and girls,

I’m just wondering what sort of different batteries everyone is using.
I should be getting my mbot ranger soon and was just thinking about what the possibilities are.
And just curious about what sort of max voltage and amperage can be put to them,
I have a small scooter battery which is 12 volt and 5amps, and was curious if it was worth using, or just to look at a small powerpack style battery.

Cheers

Hi James_Pearson,

Preferably rechargeable nickel-cadmium batteries, nickel hydrogen batteries, lithium batteries which have strong discharge capacity.

Second choice is the Alkaline batteries like Energizer or DURACELL, please do not use carbon batteries or Alkaline batteries with weak discharge capacity.

Hello, I will receive my mBot ranger shortly and I was thinking on use it one of my spare batteries from a old RC Car.
the specs of the batterie are below.

Type 2S1P
Voltage 7.4V
capacity 3000mAh
Continuous discharge current 35C (105.0A)
Short-term discharge current 70C (210.0A)

Can you please advise if I will have a problem with the strong output of the Amp. with the Auriga Board?
Its suitable to think in a DC/DC converter step-down to use Lipo S2 or maybe a S3?

Thanks in advance.
Best regards

Hi Paulojsal,

Normally the Me Auriga board can be powered with 7.4v lithium battery and it has the Over-current protection – 2.4A (instantaneous);
But without any test with such kind battery, we cannot tell if such strong output of Amp will make bad effects. You may still need to be cautions.
Here is a link to show some tech spec for the Auriga board on ranger: http://www.makeblock.com/me-auriga

Anyway, it is suggested to use normal battery. You can use the 2S lipo battery.
