Add SD Card Reader to the XY Plotter due to USB Connection Resetting Mid-Print

#1

I would like to add an SD Card reader to my Makeblock XY Plotter as the USB connection resets quite often while the bot is drawing. The bot is connected to a windows 7 PC via a powered USB hub. My 3d printer (Flashforge Creator Pro) was connected to the USB hub also but when I would power on the 3d printer, the XY Plotter would reset it’s USB connection ruining any art in work.

To prevent this, I would like to add an SD card reader function to my bot plus the ability to un-tether the plotter from a PC would be an added bonus.

Alternatively, I suppose I could add a Raspberry-Pi to the XY Plotter, connect the plotter to the RPi via USB and the RPi to my network (wifi or LAN) and port into the RPi from my PC to control mDraw installed on the RPi and/or add a small monitor to the RPi/plotter.

Has anyone done this already or possibly started working something to this effect?

I have been upgrading my XY Plotter bot with my 3d design skills and the use of my 3d printer so that I can maximize the usable work space for larger pieces etc. Once I have my bot going again I shall work on adding the SD card reader and obviously a small display with selector buttons and/or a rotary selector switch found on most 3d printers,
