6V motor @12V

#1

I just bought a makeblock basic kit and some extra parts, and I wondered if anybody have any experience with running the 6V motor at 12V? The product description says that the voltage range is 4V-12V, so I guess it should be safe, but it would be great to hear if anybody have any experience with it.

If anybody have experience at 12V, any ideas of the current it will use? I think I will use both channels of a L298N dual H-bridge to drive each motor, which give 4A and 6A peak, so I hope to even handle stall current at 12V.

Hi, I have run my 6V motor at 12V just yestoday. It’s safe. However, I think the motor can’t hold 4A current since the rated current is 0.65A.

I think TB6612FNG is much better than L298N as a motor-driver, both in the size and performance.

Thanks Johnny, then it seems like I should go for a 3 cell lipoly instead of 2 cell as an energy source, that will give approximately 12V. 0.65A is probably free spin @6V, but under higher voltage and load it will probably pull considerably more…

Im sure TB6612FNG would be a good choice as well, especially the size is better… But, I already have experience with L298N and kits cost 3 euros including shipping on ebay
