37mm motor (12 volt?)

#1

Ok, this is probabbly a dumb question, but if my 37mm motor is marked as 12 volts, isn’t that going to be a problem with only 6 aa batteries that are nominally 1.5 volts?

Is this the correct motor for this kit? Does everyone have the same 12 volt motor?

As a quick note, i did apply the motor to port 1 of my orion and 6 new AA batteries. It did turn, but very very slowly. Is there a simple test tell if it is performing tops. ?

In general, I believe that undervolting a DC motor just causes it to run slower and reduces its torque. (i.e. unlike an AC motor it won’t cause it to pull in overcurrent). So you’ll be running 9 volts into a motor that’s designed to run faster and push harder if it had a couple of extra AAs hooked up to it.
