Replace AA batteries with AC DC adapter or battery phone charger?

#1

I have a couple of Universal AC-DC adapters. Could they be used in place of the AA battery pack with the right jack? If so, what would be the required voltage and amperage?

Also, could a phone charger with the right USB jack adapter be used in place of the AA battery pack?

The AA battery pack provides power for the motors. The USB cable connected to a charger or PC will only power the board and the sensors devices.

You can use a 6V DC adapter to replace the battery pack.

Thanks! I found a 6V DC adapter, plus a plug that fits, and it works!

AC adapter for mbot?.
I know it must be max of 6V. The barrel connector is much smaller than the one for the megapi. What size must it be?

#5

Hi David,

The interface of the power adapter for mBot should be DC3.5*1.1.

#6

so 5.5x2.1 for megapi and 3.5x2.1 for mBot?

What about for the orion?

#7

Should be the same as MegaPi since I use the power supply that came with my Laserbot kit (it uses the MegaPi board) for Orion too.

Then that makes the mbot (mcore) the orphan of the group with the 3.5mm vs 5.5mm barrel plug.
I have not been able to find a 5.5 -> 3.5 adapter for the AC/DC power supply. a shame as my power supply has settings for 6, 7.5, 9 and 12V.

Hi rojoamigo,

There is a correction: the interface of the power adapter for mBot is DC3.5*1.1 instead of DC3.5 *2.1
Sorry for the confusion.
