mDrawBot mSpider stepper motors can't lift pen contraption

#1

I just put together the mSpider as part of the mDrawBot kit. I plugged the power brick into the wall and microcontroller, computer into microcontroller, installed the drivers, and installed the mSpider firmware. When I use the software to move the steppers, if there’s any tension on the string at all the gears will stutter and the position of the pen is incorrect.

Are the stepper motors underpowered? Is there some configuration on the stepper controllers that I need to change?

Dear Ian,
Sorry for my late reply. We just updated our mSpider manual with related document here: http://forum.makeblock.cc/t/download-mdrawbot-related-document-full-package-here-manual-software-more/1693
Please download it and read it through and let me know if it solves your issues.
If not, please email to mDrawbot product manager alber@makeblock.cc to get solution immediately.
Sincerely,
Una

I had this same problem initially…until I adjusted both stepper motor drivers to increase the torque.

See here: http://wiki.makeblock.cc/index.php?title=File:Me_Stepper_Driver_Current.png

I used a very small phillips screwdriver and gave each about a quarter turn in the positive direction.

After this adjustment, I ran a full drawing with no slippage whatsoever.

Good luck!
