Help deciding on a good battery - Ultimate 2.0 Robot Kit

#1

I Need help deciding on a good battery and charger combo for the
Makeblock Ultimate 2.0 Robot Kit.

I am wondering if any of you kind robot builders could point me in the right direction
I would like to order before the kit arrives at the first of the month.

I found a link on the forum here:

Rechargeable NiMH Battery Pack: 7.2 V, 2200 mAh, 3x2 AA Cells, JR Connector

This is a rechargeable 7.2 V NiMH battery pack with a capacity of 2200 mAh.
The pack consists of six AA cells in two rows and a 4

has it been verified that 7.2 V, 2200 mAh will be safe?
Thanks Jim

Hi Jimbot1,

The power spec for the megapi (main board of ultimate 2.0) is 6v~12v, so In principle, 7.2v is okay. It is safe but can’t tell if it meet your requirement according to the loads on the Ultimate 2.0.

For example, the rated working voltage for the encoder motor on Ultimate 2.0 is 9v, when you power the megapi with 7.2v battery, it still can make the motors rotate to drive the robot but it may not be able to rotate at its full speed 185rpm oe 86rpm. But if you use the 9v battery, the motors can rotate at it maximum speed.

During our test, we use the following kind rechargeable battery which was bought from manufacturer in China, you may buy a similar one.

What about an 8 AA battery holder with 8 1.2v rechargeable batteries?
example: http://www.canadarobotix.com/battery-chargers/2286

and would it also work with the starter kit with the orion board?

Hi rojoamigo,

8 x 1.2v is 9.6v which is in the power spec range of the me Orion board. In theory, it should work.
